Women's World Championship 2022 - Host Cities

Brug Arnhem

If you love sport, you’ll love Arnhem!

Arnhem is a city with strong connections to sport. The women's WCH 2022 in Arnhem is one of the examples of these connections. As the home of the Dutch Olympic Committee and Dutch Sport Federation (NOC-NSF), the capital of the Dutch province of Gelderland occupies a unique position in the Netherlands when it comes to sport. When the federation was founded in 1959 the idea was put forward of creating Papendal High Performance Centre (the largest elite sports training centre in the Netherlands).

Another example is the Gelredome. The impressive GelreDome is a multifunctional stadium that hosts major sporting events, amongst other things. In 2022 the Gelredome hosts the women's WCH. It is home to Arnhem’s football club Vitesse, which is currently competing in the Conference League.

The city also boasts a number of other outstanding sports venues. In recent years several major national and international sporting events, such as National Sports Week the Giro d’Italia, WCH inline-skating, WCH BMX and UCI BMX Supercross World Cup have come to Arnhem.

Recent volleyball events are European Women’s Under 18 Volleyball Championships and WCH Sitting Volleyball.

Arnhem’s spectacular green surroundings, with the Veluwe national park on one side and the flood-plain area on the other, make for a perfect sporting environment. From long hikes and cycling trips to the Veluwe through to boot camps in one of the city’s beautiful parks and high-level sports at our Arnhem is situated in the heart of green surroundings, flanked by the Veluwe region on one side and flood plains and the Betuwe countryside on the other. There is an abundance of proud trees, inviting parks and leafy avenues. But, no stay is complete without a visit to one of the many museums or major tourist attractions. Arnhem is also the fashion & design capital of the Netherlands. A historical city walk that takes you past Arnhem’s unique heritage sites, including key locations during the Battle of Arnhem.
